The Tree of Life (Shajarat-al-Hayat) in Bahrain is an approximately 400-year-old, 9.75 m (32 ft) high Prosopis cineraria tree. The tree stands on top of a 7.6 m (25 ft) high sandy tell that formed around a 500-year-old fortress. Genus Prosopis are extremely well adapted to arid environments with one of the deepest known root systems. The site is also believed to be used for cults practising ancient rites. Der Baum des Lebens (Shajarat-al-Hayat) in Bahrain ist ein ungefähr 400 Jahre alter und 9,75 m (32 Fuss) hoher Prosopis Cineraria Baum. Der Baum steht auf einem 7,6 m (25 Fuss) hohen sandigen Wall, der sich um eine 500 Jahre alte Festung bildete. Genus Prosopis sind mit einem der tiefsten bekannten Wurzelsysteme extrem gut geeignet in trockener Umwelt . Der Standort wurde wohl auch als Kultort für alte Riten genutzt. Photo: © Ibowski 2014
